Southern Regional Education Board
The Southern Regional Education Board is a nonprofit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia that works to improve education in its 16 member states in the southeastern United States: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.〔(2010 SREB Annual Report: Rising to the Challenge (pdf) )〕 SREB was founded in 1948 by the region's governors. Kentucky governor Steve Beshear is board chair, having been elected at the board's 2013 annual meeting.〔(North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue Elected Chair of Southern Regional Education Board )〕
